The use of reverse motion to make the convulsions a little more unsettling is a nice little trick.

The sparse score to this film, while not a great work of composition, perfectly mirrored the bleak atmosphere by making effective use of a low dissonant synth underscore at a time before that became commonplace, punctuated by an intentionally detuned meandering piano motif edited in during stock cuts of the manic undulating colony of ‘M3’ bacteria.
