Tasting Notes

The second feature in the first episode of Shudder’s newest rebeoot of their Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs series. Unlike the first entry, C.H.U.D., this one enjoys his endorsement.

The thing that is true of Stuart Gordon, which one finds either endearing or repellent, as fits one’s tastes: he goes there. More so than any of the more celebrated Giallo directors, he makes the sex squeamish and the violence meaty. Or is it the other way around?

Known best for Re-Animator, Gordon is probably thought of as camp. Neither colorfully weird nor blackly humorous, this film is not camp.
